San Diego's World-Class Convention Center

At the edge of Gaslamp District and just a five-minute walk from Hotel Solamar lies the San Diego Convention Center. The sleek white structure, highlighted at its central fiberglass "sails" that reach skyward, takes up a few city blocks along shimmering San Diego Bay. Some say it's a neighborhood unto itself.

If you're here on business, you'll be pleased to discover the great views of downtown San Diego from the convention center's floor-to-ceiling windows or rooftop terraces. On its southwest side, there lies a leisure boat-strewn marina and terraces where you can see out over San Diego Bay and Embarcadero Park where the San Diego Summer Pops perform.

The Convention Center's retains it claim to fame as host location the annual Comic-Con International Convention, a massive showcase of innovation in comic books, science fiction/fantasy, animation and pop culture (and Hollywood Central for four days). The Center also played host to the 1996 Republican National Convention.
